A knocked-out adult tooth is most likely to be saved if it's back in the socket within about an hour. Call (507) 555-0142 right away. During office hours we see you as soon as you can get to our office in Tracy, Minnesota. Pick the tooth up by the chewing end, never the root, and keep it moist on the way.
The $539.47 figure is an estimated maximum, not a fixed fee. It covers a limited emergency exam, one dental X-ray and a CBCT (3D) scan if the dentist needs one. Your actual charge depends on the imaging you need, and a CBCT scan is not always necessary. Treatment is charged separately and explained before any work starts.

What to do in the first minutes
These steps follow the American Dental Association's first-aid advice for an adult tooth:
- Find the tooth. Hold it by the crown (the white part you chew with). Don't touch the root.
- If it's dirty, rinse it gently with milk or water for a few seconds. Don't scrub it or wrap it in tissue.
- If you can, gently push it back into the socket and bite on clean gauze to hold it.
- If it won't go back in, keep it in a small container of milk, or tucked inside your cheek if you're an adult who won't swallow it.
- Call us and head to the office.

Baby teeth are different. Never push a baby tooth back in, because it can damage the adult tooth underneath. Call us so the dentist can check the area.
If there's a head injury, a broken jaw or bleeding that won't stop, go to the emergency department at Sanford Tracy Medical Center first.
What happens at your visit
The dentist checks the socket and the tooth, then places the tooth back if it isn't already. An X-ray, and sometimes a CBCT scan, shows whether the root or the bone around it is broken. A thin splint holds the tooth to its neighbors for a few weeks while it reattaches.
Many replanted teeth later need an emergency root canal, because the nerve often doesn't survive. The dentist will plan follow-up visits to watch the tooth. If the tooth can't be saved, we can talk through replacement options, including a dental implant, once the area has healed.

Frequently asked questions
What if it happens on a Friday or weekend?
Our office is closed Friday through Sunday. Call (507) 555-0142 anyway and follow the first-aid steps. Getting the tooth back in its socket yourself gives it the strongest chance. The answering service holds our first opening for you. For a head or jaw injury, go to the hospital.
Can a tooth be saved after an hour?
Sometimes. Chances drop the longer the root is dry, but a tooth kept in milk or saliva can sometimes still be replanted. Don't give up on it. Bring it in and let the dentist decide.
What about a tooth that's loose but not out?
Don't wiggle it. Bite gently on gauze to keep it in place and call us. A loose or pushed-in tooth also needs a same-day look. See broken tooth repair.
