When the nerve inside a tooth is infected or badly inflamed, a root canal can stop the pain and keep the tooth. Call (507) 555-0142 and we hold a same-day appointment at our office in Tracy, Minnesota. The dentist confirms the diagnosis with X-rays, and with a 3D scan if needed, and in many cases starts the root canal that visit.
The $539.47 figure is an estimated maximum, not a fixed fee. It covers a limited emergency exam, one dental X-ray and a CBCT (3D) scan if the dentist needs one. Your actual charge depends on the imaging you need, and a CBCT scan is not always necessary. Treatment is charged separately and explained before any work starts.

Signs you may need a root canal today
- A deep, throbbing ache, often worse when lying down
- Sensitivity to hot or cold that lasts long after the drink is gone
- Pain when chewing on one tooth
- A tooth that has turned gray or dark
- Swelling or a small bump on the gum near the tooth
Pain that suddenly stops isn't always good news. A nerve that dies can stop hurting while the infection keeps spreading at the root tip.

What happens at your same-day visit
The dentist starts with an exam and X-ray. Root canals depend on knowing how many canals a tooth has and how they curve, and a CBCT scan shows that in 3D when the flat image isn't enough.
If a root canal is the right choice, you hear the cost first. Then the tooth is numbed with local anesthesia. Nitrous oxide is available if you're anxious. The dentist makes a small opening in the tooth, removes the infected or inflamed tissue, cleans and shapes the canals, and seals them. Some teeth are finished in one visit. Others get medicine and a temporary filling, with a second visit to finish.
A tooth that has had a root canal is more brittle, especially a back tooth. The dentist will usually recommend a crown later to protect it.
Cost of an emergency root canal in Tracy
The emergency exam has an estimated maximum of $539.47. The root canal itself is priced separately and depends on the tooth: front teeth have fewer canals than molars. You get the number before treatment starts.

Frequently asked questions
Does a root canal hurt?
The tooth is numbed with local anesthesia first, so most people feel pressure and vibration rather than sharp pain. The tooth may be sore for a few days afterward. An over-the-counter pain reliever, taken as the label directs, usually handles that.
Should I just have the tooth pulled instead?
Sometimes that's the better choice, and sometimes it isn't. Keeping your own tooth avoids a gap that can let other teeth shift. The dentist explains both options and their costs. You decide. See emergency tooth extraction.
Can I get a root canal on a Friday?
No. Our office is closed Friday through Sunday. Call (507) 555-0142 anyway: the answering service takes your details and holds Monday's first opening. For swelling spreading toward the eye or neck, go to Sanford Tracy Medical Center first. Our toothache page has tips for the wait.
